From ‘hell-on-wheels’ community to modern day Minot
“The Last Hurrah: An Account of the Mouse River Valley, Bone Town, Little Chicago, and the Magic City.”
Mark Timbrook has spent years researching the history of Minot for his new book, “The Last Hurrah: An Account of the Mouse River Valley, Bone Town, Little Chicago, and the Magic City.” Timbrook, who has been a longtime member and one time president of the Ward County Historical Society, starts his story at the very beginning: 1 million years ago when the Souris River Valley was created. The book was bound and printed at Niess Impressions Publishing of Minot and new copies are being printed. The book is available at the Gordon B. Olson Library at Minot State University and the Minot Public Library as well as at the North Dakota Historical Society. It is also being sold locally at Main Street Books and Home Sweet Home. Timbrook said he concentrates on some stories he thinks Minot residents might not have heard before. For instance, he said, some people might not know that Minot had fur traders established here or that the valley was used as a wintering post.
