BISMARCK – Applause rang out nearly 20 times as Gov. John Hoeven presented his State of the State address in a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives Tuesday afternoon. Besides touting a sizeable list of North Dakota’s strong points, Hoeven focused on tax relief, K-12 and higher education, the energy industry and helping families. Making the right investments, he said, will strengthen both the state’s business climate and its quality of life. “It was very positive, but with caution to make the right investments for the future and make sure we save for the future,” said Sen. Karen Krebsbach, R-Minot, of Hoeven’s speech. Compared to the rest of the country, North Dakota is doing well. Hoeven highlighted the fact that the state has funding in its reserve account, something it didn’t have just eight years ago.
