Reflections
Rev. Bruce Krebs
Because God calls us to be good stewards of the gifts and resources he has placed under our control, as Christian people we should have the desire to be good stewards of creation. After all, in Genesis we hear that God created the man and the woman and gave them “dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air and the cattle and over all the wild animals and all the creatures that crawl on the ground.” And it goes on saying how God gave to mankind the trees, the plants and all the living creatures. “Fill the earth and subdue it,” He says. I have always understood this to mean, not to squander or ravage the land and all creation, but rather to be responsible caretakers of it. After all God gave it to humanity for the generations that would come after the first humans, not to be ravaged by one generation.
