Zoanne R. Flickinger

March 26, 1931-Nov. 20, 2008

POSTED: November 21, 2008

Beloved wife and devoted mother, Zoanne Rose Bishop Flickinger, went to be with her Savior on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Zoanne was born March 26, 1931, in Toledo, Ohio, to Firmin and Ruth (Coles) Bishop. She graduated from high school in Akron, Ohio. From there, she went to Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, where she was a member of Delta Gamma sorority and received a bachelor of science degree in nursing. She also met her future husband, Dr. Dale Bertram Flickinger II, there. They were married on Dec. 20, 1952, in Akron. They lived and worked in Boston before coming to Minot in 1960.

Zoanne was an active and vital member of the community. She took great care for others in real ways. She and a friend worked to provide wigs for cancer patients dealing with hair loss from chemotherapy. She cared for kids in need by being a guardian ad litem for the courts, and served the community through the YWCA. She was a believer in action. If she saw a need, she figured she was the one to take care of it, and did what it took to get the job done. She was a giving person.

Mrs. Flickinger was also a good leader. She was a member of the Minot Public Schools School Board for nine years. She liked politics, and was an active lifelong Republican. She loved the Eagle Forum, and fought hard for what she believed in. She served as president of the Women's Association of the Minot Country Club. She was a Girl Scout leader, den mother, and Little League baseball coach.

Zoanne loved art and beauty. She was always creating something, from floral arrangements to porcelain dolls. She adored china painting with friends, and excelled at painting sinks, and vases for a ministry to new moms at church. She loved God, and served Him at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Brethren Church. Zoanne enjoyed fly-fishing, antiquing, playing bridge and golf. She lived life to the fullest.

She will be greatly missed by her surviving family: loving husband Dr. Dale Flickinger II of Minot; sons Dale Flickinger III of Memphis, Tenn., Charles (Kathy) Flickinger of Jackson, Wyo., and William (Mary) Flickinger of Moorhead, Minn.; daughters Dr. Susan (Langer) Gokey of Minot, Bonnie (Marijan) Kovacevich of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and Holly (Doug) Brown of Frederick. She was a grandmother to 18 grandchildren.

Zoanne was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and a sister.
